Vivarium Technician (contract)

Erasca is a clinical-stage precision oncology company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing medicines for the benefit of patients with cancer. Our programs take novel approaches to shutting down one of cancer’s most commonly mutated signaling cascades, the RAS/MAPK pathway, which affects approximately 5.5 million lives each year worldwide. Position Summary: 

As a member of the biology research team, this individual will focus on in vivo support to translational research efforts. This contract role is part-time, primarily weekends, and limited to vivarium work to support Erasca’s mission of erasing cancer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Administer small molecule compounds and biologics to naïve and tumor-bearing rodents (mouse and rat).
  • Follow study protocol, IACUC protocols, SOP and animal welfare policy in animal studies.
  • Available on weekends and holidays to support animal studies (e.g., animal dosing).
  • Utilize effective troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively. Candidates must be flexible and have strong multitasking skills.
  • Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • BS with 0-2+ years, MS with 0+ years in Cancer Biology, Cancer Immunology, Pharmacology or related field, or comparable experience
  • Technician or Research Associate with at least 1-2 years of in vivo experience
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • In vivo skills necessary to validate and implement rodent oncology models including:
    • Animal study preparation (e.g., ear tag and randomization using computer software)
    • Multiple routes of dosing (e.g., p.o., i.p., i.v.)
    • Measurement of subcutaneous tumor volume by caliper
    • Blood collection via various routes (e.g., tail vein, terminal cardiac and retro orbital)
    • Necropsy and collection of tumor/organs
    • Euthanasia/carcass disposal
    • Animal Husbandry and IACUC experience
    • Be able to assess and identify animal health issues and record daily
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and GraphPad Prism is required
  • Strong learning orientation, curiosity, and commitment to science and patients
  • Must be available to work weekends

  • Frequent communication (talking/hearing).
  • Regular sitting, walking and standing; occasional stooping.
  • Regular use of hands and reaching with arms.
  • May be required to move or lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include: close, distance, peripheral, color and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May work or be exposed to moving mechanical parts or in a laboratory setting with chemicals.  May also be exposed to unpleasant odors and loud noises.  May also work with strong magnetic fields (NMR lab). Interaction with laboratory equipment and areas require use of personal protective equipment.
  • May work in wet or humid conditions, near moving or mechanical parts, heights or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles (with appropriate respiratory protection), toxic or caustic chemicals including liquid nitrogen (with appropriate body and respiratory protection), outdoors, and brief exposures to cold and/or freezing conditions (with appropriate garments).
  • Computer use:  50% of the time.
  • Noise conditions:  Normal office environment and laboratory environment.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $30.00 to $35.00 dollars per hour. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etcetera.
